A fire Tuesday damaged two peanut-roasting machines at the J.M. Smucker Jif peanut butter plant in Lexington.
No one was hurt, said Battalion Chief Joe Best, a spokesman for the Lexington Division of Fire and Emergency.
Firefighters were dispatched to the plant on Winchester Road about 11:35 a.m. after two of four peanut roasters caught fire, Best said.
The cause of the fire had not been determined Tuesday afternoon.
Best said the two roasters had "pretty significant damage," and probably will be out of operation for some time.
"I talked to them at the plant, and they think they will be able to continue to operate, but they will be at half capacity for a while until the roasters are repaired," Best said.
Flames shot into the air, but Best said he wasn't sure whether the fire had burned through the roof or simply was blowing out vents.
