A broken water main that has been affecting traffic on Versailles Road should be repaired by early Wednesday evening, Kentucky-American Water Co. says.

Crews will be working at the site through rush hour Wednesday, and hope to complete repairs by about 7 p.m., water company spokeswoman Susan Lancho said.

Motorists driving through the area should use caution, she said.

The break in an 8-inch water main was reported about 7 a.m. Wednesday, snarling traffic in the right inbound lane of Versailles Road near Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.

Water leaking into the roadway quickly turned to ice, further complicating problems.

Repair crews have been on the scene throughout the day.

The broken line affected water service to a liquor store and a pizza restaurant, but Cardinal Hill Hospital continued normal operations, according to Lancho.

The break was "weather related," she said.
