Finalists named for Mr. and Miss Basketball

Lafayette's Jackson Davis has committed to play for Rice, but his senior season is drawing interest from other schools.

Seven boys and seven girls were named candidates Wednesday night for this season's Kentucky Mr. and Miss Basketball awards.

Boys' candidates are Jackson Davis of Lafayette, Trent Gilbert of Scott County, Shane Hall of Johnson Central, Brandon Hatton of Dixie Heights, Justin Johnson of Perry County Central, and Kelan Martin and Quentin Snider of Ballard.

Girls' candidates are Ivy Brown of LaRue County, MacKenzie Cann and Eriel McKee of Anderson County, Nicole Kiernan of Newport Central Catholic, Javonna Layfield of Ballard, Kayla Rankin of Perry County Central and Daijia Ruffin of Sacred Heart.

The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation will name the 2014 winners during the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards Ceremony on March 18 in the Bluegrass Ballroom of the Lexington Center.
