Kentucky State Police arrested two men in Bell County Saturday night after a shot was fired at volunteer firefighters.

Vance Miller, 44, and David Lefevers, 37, were charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, according to the Harlan state police post.

Troopers said members of the Bell County Fire Volunteer Department went to the Arjay community about 9:20 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a vehicle burning near a home.

When the firefighters arrived, a man came out of the house, cursed the firefighters and fired at them before going back inside, police said.

State troopers went to the home and attempted to contact the person inside the home several times by phone and loudspeaker. But they were unsuccessful, police said.

A state police special response team was activated, and chemical agents were tossed into the home, troopers said.

Miller and Lefevers were arrested when they left the house.
