Sam Lee has been installed as president of the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce at the annual meeting and awards dinner held at the R.J. Corman Hanger Jan. 23. Lee is president of First Southern National Bank in Nicholasville.

An evening with the poet laureate

The Jessamine County Public Library will present an evening with Frank X Walker, the poet laureate of Kentucky, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Walker will read selections from his four published poetry collections, including When Winter Come: The Ascension of York, a historic elucidation celebrating the only black who was part of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Walker serves as writer in residence and lecturer of English at Northern Kentucky University and is the publisher of PLUCK!, the new Journal of Affrilachian Art and Culture. Live music and light hors d'oeuvres will be available before the event starts. Call (859) 885-3523.

Blood mobile at library Saturday

The Kentucky Blood Center will hold a mobile blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jessamine County Public Library, 600 South Main Street, Nicholasville. If you are in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, have a photo I.D. and are at least 17 years old, you can donate blood. Those who are 16 years old can donate with a signed parent permission slip. Prospective donors must complete a confidential health questionnaire and pass a mini-physical.
