High school basketball roundup: Henry Clay girls upset Dunbar

T’Laya Lyvers scored 14 point and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Henry Clay’s girls to an upset of No. 19 Paul Dunbar 45-36. Brooke Todd had 15 points for the Bulldogs, who turned the ball over 19 times, resulting in 17 points for the Blue Devils. Henry Clay broke open a close game with a big fourth quarter.

Dee Givens scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead No. 9 Lafayette to a 75-25 rout of host Tates Creek. Lafayette scored 30 in the first quarter, more than winless Tates Creek’s total for the game.

Gabby Bowie scored 21 points, hitting nine of 13 shots, to lead Sayre past visiting Wolfe County 54-24. In boys’ games:

Tanner Johnson scored 28 points to lead Lexington Catholic past visiting Paul Dunbar 58-55.

Scott County, ranked third in the state, got 24 points from center Raekwon Long and 22 from guard Trent Gilbert to hold off host Bryan Station 69-57.

After scoring only one point in the first quarter, Sayre bounded back with 25 in the second quarter and went on to beat Nicholas County 49-42. Justin Sanders led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds.
