These 3-year-olds weren't sharp enough to make it into our Derby Dozen, but they stand to make a strong run for the roses before all is said and done.

ALMOST FAMOUS

CALIFORNIA CHROME

Owners: Steven Coburn and Perry Martin

Trainer: Art Sherman

Bloodline: Chestnut colt by Lucky Pulpit-Love the Chase, by Not For Love

Career record: Eight starts, 4-1-0, $354,850

The lowdown: Ton of seasoning, and defeated Grade I winner Tamarando by 51/2 lengths in the California Cup Derby at Santa Anita on Jan. 25. Pointed for San Felipe on March 8.

CHITU

Owners: Tanma Corporation

Trainer: Bob Baffert

Bloodline: Chestnut colt by Henny Hughes-Sea Gift, by A.P. Indy

Career record: Three starts, 2-1-0, $101,800

The lowdown: Ran a sneaky good second to Candy Boy in the Robert B. Lewis in his first try going two turns.

HAVANA

Trainer: Todd Pletcher

Bloodline: Gray/roan colt by Dunkirk-Missy Turtle, by Kyle's Our Man

Career record: Three starts, 2-1-0, $708,000

The lowdown: Grade I winner only returned to the worktab on Feb. 1, so he will make his season debut in the Grade II, 7-furlong Swale Stakes at Gulfstream on March 1.

INDIANAPOLIS

Owners: Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith, Michael Tabor

Trainer: Bob Baffert

Bloodline: Dark bay colt by Medaglia d'Oro-Pretty 'n Smart, by Beau Genius

Career record: Two starts, 2-0-0, $73,200

The lowdown: Ability he showed in taking the San Pedro Stakes suggests he can be any kind but has yet to stretch out past 6 furlongs. Grade II San Vicente on Feb. 16 likely next.

NOBLE MOON

RISE UP

The lowdown: Won four of last five starts in 2013 including the Grade III Delta Jackpot on Nov. 23.

SHARED BELIEF

Trainer: Jerry Hollendorfer

Bloodline: Dark bay gelding by Candy Ride-Common Hope, by Storm Cat

Career record: Three starts, 3-0-0, $451,200

The lowdown: Why, you ask, is the unbeaten, super-brilliant juvenile champion not in the main Derby Dozen? Because he has been battling a quarter crack and hasn't worked since Jan. 3 with little information from his camp on when he might return to the worktab. If you can't work, you can't run. Here's hoping he gets healthy soon.

TAMARANDO

Career record: Nine starts, 3-2-3, $505,120
