Wolfe County man dies when truck hits utility pole

A Wolfe County man was killed Sunday evening in a single-vehicle wreck, according to Kentucky State Police.

James Smith, 20, of Campton was driving north on Ky. 205 in a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup when he drove off the road and overcorrected, and his truck hit a utility pole, police said in a news release.

Smith was thrown from the truck and died at the scene.

A passenger, Lisa Perkins, 19, of West Liberty, was taken to the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, where she was listed in stable condition, according to the news release.

Smith and Perkins were not wearing seat belts, according to the news release.

State police were notified of the wreck at 7:48 p.m. Sunday.
