Locally made Valentine's Day treats for your sweetie

February 10, 2014

Lexington businesses are gearing up for Valentine's Day with some unique local gifts for the one you love.

Le Matin French Bakery, 890 East High Street, will sweeten your valentine with its heart-shaped Tropézienne, brioche that is sliced and filled with cream. The price: $9.50.

At Lexington Pasta, 227 North Limestone, roasted red peppers and sun-dried tomatoes turn pasta the perfect Valentine's Day red color. And tomato rosetti, a rose-shaped pasta, above, would give your Valentine's Day dinner a special twist. The pasta sells for $2 per four ounces.

The Bluegrass Barkery in Brighton Place has heart-shaped dog biscuits for your favorite pup. "I Woof You" and the Valentine's puppy are peanut butter-based cookies made with applesauce and barley flour, frosted with a yogurt-based icing. They cost $2.59 each.

Erin Miller of The Crushed Violet on Church Street has some Valentine's Day scent recommendations. Among them: Ineke After My Own Heart ($95 for 75 ml) which is described as radiating "with the tender scent of lilac floating on the warm evening breeze, mingling with ripe raspberry and crisp foliage, to encapsulate the happiness of spring and the hopefulness of blossoming romance."

Coming on more aggressively is Juliette Has a Gun/Mad Madame, described as an "ultra-modern creation for the woman (or man) who thrives on the edge and has a flair for the dramatic," with rose oil and "hints of darker, naughtier notes."
