Fayette sheriff's office warns about phone scam

February 13, 2014

The Fayette County sheriff's office issued a warning about a phone scam that came to its attention Thursday.

Citizens said they had received telephone calls from someone claiming to be a Fayette County deputy sheriff. This caller threatened people with arrest for missing jury duty, and said the citizen can pay a fine over the phone to avoid arrest or jail time.

The sheriff's office does not conduct law enforcement business in this way. Anyone who has received a call similar to this may call the sheriff's office at (859) 252-1771
