An Alabama truck driver died when his tanker overturned Monday in Laurel County.

Shawn Sweatt of Pell City, Ala., was driving north on Interstate 75 when he came up behind a slow-moving vehicle near mile marker 37 about 4:45 p.m., according to a news release from state police.

Sweatt swerved to avoid the vehicle, causing his tractor-trailer to leave the road and overturn, according to the release.

Sweatt, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for hours as state police investigated the crash.
