SEC has 14 of Top 100 basketball recruits for 2014

broberts@herald-leader.comFebruary 19, 2014

It has been another rough basketball season for the national perception of the Southeastern Conference, but the league is still bringing in some big-time recruits.

Of the 98 players in the Scout.com Top 100 who have already signed or committed to a school, 14 are headed to the SEC. Only the new-look Atlantic Coast Conference (21) and Big East (17) will have more Top 100 freshmen on campus next season.

Seven of the SEC’s 14 programs have at least one signee in the Scout Top 100. UK leads the way with four players — Karl Towns Jr., Trey Lyles, Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis. Florida has three, Alabama and Missouri have two each, and LSU, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M have one apiece.

Texas center Myles Turner and Huntington Prep guard JaQuan Lyle are the only two uncommitted prospects in the Scout.com Top 100. UK is the only SEC team that Turner is considering. Lyle has cut his list to four schools, none in the SEC.
