Lexington police say a 7-year-old boy was hit by a car Thursday after getting off the school bus on Woodhill Drive.

Fayette County Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said the boy, who was not identified, is a Breckinridge Elementary School student.

Police say the boy was hit at 2:50 p.m. when he got off the bus and tried to cross the street in the 2000 block of Woodhill Drive. The boy was thrown on the hood of Honda Accord and then fell to the ground. After the boy was hit, he got up and started walking around until people urged him to sit down. He was alert and talking.

The boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body.

Lt. Clay Combs said the driver, who is a 16-year-old, will not be cited because it was an accident. Clay said an officer has to be present to see the accident. Combs would not release the name of the boy or the driver.
