A Richmond man is charged with attempted murder and multiple other offenses in the stabbing of his sister, Richmond police say.

Assistant Police Chief Robert Mott said officers arrested Patrick Adam Hamner, 32, late Friday afternoon. He is being held in the Madison County jail.

Hamner's sister, whose name has not been released, remained in serious condition at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Mott said.

In addition to attempted murder, Hamner is charged with first-degree burglary; menacing, terroristic threatening and resisting arrest.

The charges stem from an altercation Friday afternoon at an apartment on Woods Trail in Richmond, Mott said. Police were called about 5 p.m., he said.

Officers are trying to determine what happened.

"It's not exactly clear what the motive is," Mott said.
