High school basketball district tournament highlights: Augusta upsets No. 25 Mason Co. boys

Brent Bach hit the game-winning free throw with less than a second to go in overtime and scored 48 of his team's 61 points overall in a 61-60 upset of Mason County in the boys' 39th District tournament.

The Royals, 25th in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, entered the post-season opener with a 21-5 record and nearly 20 points higher than Augusta in the ratings.

West Jessamine 73, Mercer County 64 (46th): West Jessamine and host Mercer County played even at 49-all with 5:40 to go before the Colts scored five straight and pulled away for a victory.

Daulton Peters scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for West Jessamine, which had trailed by eight at halftime. Brooks Ely added 17 points and three steals and Will Henderson had 16 points and three assists.

Will Hager was 11-for-14 from the field and finished with 24 points and seven rebounds for the Titans.

Madison Central 77, Model 64 (44th): The Indians, defending state champs, opened their title defense with a victory at Eastern Kentucky University's McBrayer Arena.

DeMarcus George scored 20 points, Sam Jones had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Isaiah Johnson contributed eight points, four assists and four steals.

Zack Rice-Gordon had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Patriots.

Fleming County 84, Menifee County 64 (61st): Wilder Williams scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds in host Fleming County's win. Thomas Chaney had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Menifee.

Corbin 59, Whitley County 57 (50th): Joey Shelton, a senior, hit a game-winning jumper at the buzzer for the Redhounds.


No. 4 Franklin County 61, Frankfort 31 (41st): Nannilena White scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds and also had five assists and three steals in a rout at the Frankfort Convention Center. Anna Arrastia and Rebecca Cook added 11 points apiece and Cook had eight rebounds.

Jasmine Turpin scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Brianna Burbridge had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots for Frankfort.

Madison Central 66, Model 35 (44th): Shadae Bosley scored 13 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked four shots for the Indians. Bailey O'Bryan and Emily Willoughby both had five assists.

Danville 59, Lincoln County 49 (45th): Essence Grey scored 30 points to go with nine assists and eight rebounds for Danville.
