Man charged with stabbing half-brother in Columbia

A man has been charged with stabbing his half-brother in Columbia, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers with the Columbia state police post arrested Eric Melton, 28, Thursday evening in Russell County.

Melton is charged with first-degree assault in the attack on Brian Fletcher, 34, police said. Both men are from Columbia.

State police said they were notified about 3:30 p.m. Thursday that Fletcher was being treated for multiple stab wounds at Columbia's Westlake Regional Hospital.

State police obtained a warrant for Melton and arrested him in Russell County about 6:15 p.m. CST Thursday. He was being held in the Adair County jail, police said.

Fletcher was treated at the hospital and released, police said. An investigation is continuing.
