Police arrested a driver who admitted to overdosing on prescription drugs before a wreck that injured four people in Carroll County.

Donald Jefferies, 50, of Goshen in Oldham County, was charged with three counts of first-degree assault and driving under the influence, according to Kentucky State Police.

The arrest followed a wreck about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Carroll County that sent four people to the hospital.

Jefferies was driving east on Ky. 36 when his vehicle crossed the center line, according to troopers at the Campbellsburg KSP post.

Jefferies' vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Stephen Wise, 37, of Carrollton, state police said.

Wise and Nicole Wise, 34, of Carrollton, a passenger in his car, were flown to University of Louisville Hospital.

A child in the Wise vehicle was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, state police said.

Jefferies, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was taken to Carroll County Memorial Hospital and transferred to University of Cincinnati Hospital.

State police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Jefferies later Thursday after he admitted to Trooper Dave Roberts that he was driving after having taken an excessive amount of prescription medicine.

Jefferies was taken to the Carroll County jail.
