Lex-Care: Victim of scam needs help to pay rent

March 10, 2014

Antoinette Miles, who works at Bluegrass IMPACT, has a client who needs $500 to help pay her rent. The client is a full-time caretaker of her special needs daughter and lives off her disability payments. Unfortunately, she was recently the victim of a scam. She thought she was signing up for a work-from-home program and after completing the work she was sent a check, which she deposited in her bank account and spent on various bills.

The bank later informed her that the check was a fake. Due to this scam, she is now at risk of being evicted from her apartment. After her rent is paid, the client will be able to pay her bills with her disability income and will continue to care for her daughter in her home.
