A handgun stolen in Madison County and pawned in Laurel County led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

Brian Shaffer of McKee was arrested by the Laurel County sheriff's department Thursday at the Laurel County Detention Center, where he already was being held on another matter.

Shaffer is now charged with receiving stolen property and theft by deception in the firearm case, the sheriff's department said.

According to deputies, Shaffer allegedly went to a pawn shop in Laurel County with the stolen pistol. Officers said they recovered the gun from the pawn shop.
