Jessamine County notes: Mar. 18

Jessamine County's annual cleanup is a way for residents to dispose of residential debris. Citizens are encouraged to bring their debris to either the Jessamine County Road Department on Longview Drive in Nicholasville or Witt Lane in Wilmore. Both sites are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday through March 29. The department will be closed Sunday. Curbside pickup is available for Nicholasville and county residents. Beef association president honored

Ron Ray, 2013 Jessamine County Beef Cattle Association president, was honored at the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association Conference with a first-place award for membership recruitment. Ray received $1,000 and a cattlemen's jacket. New officers for the association are Doug Marshall, president; Sandie (C.K.) Hammond, vice-president; Judy Miller, treasurer; and Sharon Guy, secretary.

Beef Feeder Production award presented

Carl Waits of Jessamine County was a 2014 Regional Production Contest winner at the Bluegrass and Northern Kentucky Young Farmer Association banquet held recently at the Scott County Agricultural Extension Office. Waits received the Beef Feeder Production award. Featured speaker State Rep. Tom McKee explained the biannual budget process for the state and reported on relevant legislation currently under consideration. The 2014 National Young Farmers convention will be held Dec. 11-13 in Louisville.
