Blasting at CentrePointe ends for basketball tournament; returns Monday

Herald-Leader Staff ReportMarch 18, 2014

The CentrePointe blast Tuesday morning was the last one until Monday.

Work will stop while the 2014 KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen basketball tournament is in town, beginning Wednesday.

Blasting will resume March 24, with one detonation planned each day, six days per week for the next several weeks, according to city officials.

Dudley Webb, whose firm, Webb Companies, is developing CentrePointe, estimated that it could take about 60 days to complete the blasting and remove the resulting rock and debris from the site.

The blasting will clear the way for construction of a 700-car underground parking garage at CentrePointe.
