A candidate for county attorney in Knox County was indicted by a grand jury in Laurel County on Friday.

David Jorjani, a Republican who served a prior term as county attorney; his wife, Cameo Jorjani; and Dr. Jean Mackay were charged with tampering with physical evidence.

The indictment charged that in August 2013, the three fabricated physical evidence to use in an official proceeding, or submitted evidence knowing it was fabricated, according to The Mountain Advocate newspaper in Barbourville.

Summonses were issued directing the three to appear in court next month.
