Doctor who lost license, 14 patients to overdose deaths is found dead

A Northern Kentucky doctor who had his medical license suspended as federal authorities investigated the overdose deaths of 14 of his patients was found dead Wednesday at his son’s home. The death of Dr. Gary Shearer, 69, of Union remained under investigation Wednesday, but foul play wasn’t suspected, Boone County Coroner Douglas Stith said. Shearer’s death came during the same week the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure held a hearing to determine whether to reinstate Shearer’s license.
