A woman has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a Magoffin County man, according to Kentucky State Police.

Marie Minix, 42, allegedly killed Roy Prater, 43, of Salyersville on Saturday.

Magoffin County Coroner Mark Jenkins said Minix was Prater's girlfriend. Police did not release details of what led up to Prater's death, but listed the charge against Minix as murder — domestic violence.

Jenkins said the stabbing was reported shortly after 10 a.m. A trooper and ambulance crew found Prater dead.

Prater had been stabbed one time in the upper leg, severing the femoral artery and causing him to quickly bleed to death, said Jenkins.

The stabbing happened in the Falcon community, about five miles from Salyersville.

Minix was being held Monday at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
