A boy who was struck by a minivan Tuesday afternoon while riding a bike in Lexington is recovering, police said.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said Wednesday that the boy suffered a broken arm and leg.

Roberts said she wasn't sure whether he had been released from the hospital.

"He will recover," she said.

Roberts said she was trying to find out the child's age.

According to police, the boy apparently rode into the street in the 800 block of Whitney Avenue and was struck by the minivan about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The child was taken to University of Kentucky Children's Hospital for treatment.

No charges have been filed against the driver, Roberts said.

As a precaution, police sent an accident reconstruction unit to the scene, as it does for more serious car accidents, Roberts said.

"We didn't want to take any chances if his condition turned out to be more serious that at first believed," she said.
