Defense attorneys entered a not guilty plea Thursday in Fayette District Court for Keenan McLaughlin, who faces two counts of murder.

A pre-trial conference was set for April 24, with a status hearing on May 9.

Authorities say McLaughlin, 22, of Lexington, was fleeing from Scott County sheriff's deputies on Jan. 14, when his car collided with another car on Georgetown Road, just inside Fayette County.

The driver of the second car, Luis Gonzalez, 62, of Georgetown, died at the scene. A passenger in Gonzalez's car, Geneva Spencer, died of her injuries in March.

Police said McLaughlin ran from the wreck. He later was arrested by Lexington police after an hours-long standoff.

He was indicted for murder in Gonzalez's death in March. A later indictment also charged him with Spencer's death.

McLaughlin faces about 10 other charges relating to drugs, assault and receiving stolen property.
