Lexington police were investigating a robbery at Bluegrass Extended Stay on Richmond Road late Tuesday.

Lt. Clayton Roberts said two men and one woman who were inside a room at the motel told police that two men knocked on their door, and when they opened it the men came inside with a gun, demanding cash.

When the victims initially declined, Roberts said the robbers fired one shot and hit one of the men with a baseball bat or stick.

The assailants then took cash from the victims and ran.

Police were called at 10:10 p.m. by someone who reported hearing arguing and a gunshot.

Roberts said police were questioning two men who were thought to be the robbers.

Investigators did not know whether the victims and the men who robbed them knew each other.

"We believe there's more to the story," Roberts said.
