April 13, 2014

Lexington police have charged a man in the Saturday night shooting of another man outside a shopping center on Village Drive.

Gustavo Hernandez, 20, is charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, said Lt. Eddie Hart. Hernandez was charged with tampering for allegedly discarding the gun, Hart said.

The victim, who was not identified by police, was shot once in the leg and once in the shoulder.

The shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. in the parking lot outside Salon De Fiestas Mary-Brisa, where a birthday party was being held. El Cielo Bar is nearby.

Hernandez was transferred to a facility in Northern Kentucky. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday via video in Fayette District Court.
