Two men were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday in Russell County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The wreck happened when Bacilio C. Salamanca, 66, of Russell Springs pulled onto Kentucky 80 and into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Scott D. Anderson, 52, of Somerset, police said in a news release.

A passenger in Salamanca's car, José F. Otanendi, 36, of Russell Springs, died at the scene. Emergency workers took Salamanca to the Russell County Hospital, but he was pronounced dead there, police said.

Two other passengers, José Hernandez, 25, of Mannsville and Angel Solis, 29, of Russell Springs, were flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition at midday, according to state police. Hernandez was in fair condition Friday, UK said. There was no word on Solis’ condition.

None of the people in Salamanca's 2004 Pontiac wore wearing safety belts.

Anderson, who was wearing a seat belt, was not seriously injured, police said.

The wreck happened about 6:30 a.m., seven miles east of Russell Springs.
