Library hosts Summer Activities Fair Marilyn Boyd of Garrard County, right, visited the Lion's Pride Martial Arts booth at the Jessamine County Public Library Summer Activities Fair on April 13 in Nicholasville. The event provided an opportunity for parents and children to explore summer activity possibilities in the region. Baby Health checkup day and baby shower event are Saturday

The Jessamine County Health Check-up Day will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jessamine County Career & Technology Center. Free screenings for men, women and children will include cholesterol, EKG, body fat, eyes and ears, dental, blood pressure, blood glucose, bone density and chiropractic. Door prizes and a light lunch will be provided. The Jessamine County Career & Technology Center is behind the Board of Education Office at 881 Wilmore Road, Nicholasville. Experts will offer advice at 'baby shower'

A community-wide "baby shower" will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jessamine Early Learning Village, 851 Wilmore Road, Nicholasville.

Pediatricians, counselors, prenatal care advisers and the Jessamine County Health Department will be on hand to speak to expectant parents and parent of children up to age 2. A raffle will be held for baby care baskets, gift cards and car seats. There also will be family activities such sidewalk chalk, face painting, corn hole, fire truck and bubbles during the free event. Lunch, consisting of a hot dog, chips and a drink, will be available for $3. Reservations at

High Bridge Community Association has bean supper

The High Bridge Community Association Bean Supper will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at High Bridge Fire House Community Center, 4665 High Bridge Road, Wilmore. Music will be provided by Jessamine Creek Express. A donation of $8 gets bean soup, corn bread, dessert and a drink. For more information, call (859) 948-4586.
