Kentucky State Police charged a Beattyville man with murder Wednesday night in the death of a 79-year-old woman earlier this month.

Melvin G. Slone, 55, is accused of killing Martha Belle Hollar on April 11 at her home in Beattyville, according to the Richmond state police post.

Hollar's body was found inside her home on Main Street after it burned that night. An autopsy confirmed that she had died before the fire began.

Hollar had been shot, according to state police.

Slone was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday and was being held in the Three Forks Regional Jail at Beattyville.

An investigation into the case is continuing, troopers said.
