A motorist is dead after an early-morning, single-vehicle crash on Briar Hill Road in east Lexington.

Jose Soriano Ramirez, 22, of Paris, was the driver of a dark sedan that hit a tree and crashed through a plank fence into a field at 3676 Briar Hill Road between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Lexington police and the Fayette County coroner's office.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of blunt-force trauma. He was the only occupant in the car.

Alcohol containers were found in the car, and toxicology results will determine if drugs or alcohol were involved, the coroner's office said.
