A former Knox County Central High School teacher has been charged with rape after alleged "inappropriate" contact with a student, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers with the Harlan KSP post arrested Terry Jones, 37, of the Heidrick community, on Tuesday after a Knox County grand jury issued an indictment.

Jones is charged with third-degree rape, according to a KSP release.

State police said they began an investigation after school officials contacted the Harlan post on March 13 about a teacher having an "inappropriate interaction" with a student.
