New Riff craft distillery to open in Newport

jpatton1@herald-leader.comMay 2, 2014

A new craft distillery is opening next week in Newport, but there is nothing small about New Riff, which has a 500-gallon pot still and a 60-foot column still.

New Riff, which will open to the public Thursday, will make bourbon, rye whiskey and gin. It also will age on site OKI Straight Bourbon, which stands for Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Ken Lewis, former president of the Wine and Spirits Guild of America and former owner of The Party Source, is president of New Riff. Brian Sprance, a former Sam Adams brewer, will be the head distiller.

New Riff has joined the Kentucky Distillers' Association and will be the ninth attraction on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour.
