A teenage driver was killed over the weekend in Knox County when a car with five passengers went off the road, overturned and burst into flames, Kentucky State Police said.

State police did not immediately release any victims' names because they said the driver and all the passengers were younger than 18.

Police said they received a call about the wreck on Turkey Creek Road at 1:49 a.m. Saturday. They said the 2008 Pontiac G6 was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, and the driver was trapped inside.

Four passengers were taken to the University of Tennessee and University of Kentucky medical centers. Another was treated at the scene and released.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins. He could not be reached for comment Sunday.
