A Woodford County man was charged with murder after his brother's body was found by a motorist about 7 a.m. Sunday along a Woodford County highway.

Vernon Saunders also was charged with one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of abuse of a corpse, Versailles police Lt. Daniel Clark said. He did not have a specific age for Saunders but said he was born in 1957.

Clark said the abuse charge was related to the body being dragged by a car. He said the crime scene on Ky. 33 was about 1.5 miles long.

The Woodford County coroner's office on Sunday night identified the dead man as Timothy Saunders, 51, of Florida. The office said the men's mother said that he often came to Kentucky to visit his brother.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday in Frankfort. It was not immediately known whether Timothy Saunders was dead before his body was dragged down the highway.

Vernon Saunders was arrested about 1 p.m. Sunday at his home on Ky. 33 and was being held in the Woodford County Jail, Clark said.

Ky. 33 between Mundy's Landing and Curd Road was shut down most of Sunday for the police investigation.
