Man shot in leg during gunfire exchange near Lexington street

A man was shot in the leg during an apparent exchange of gunfire on East Seventh Street late Tuesday night, Lexington police said.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said officers went to East Seventh and Magoffin streets at 10:38 p.m. after a report of shots being fired.

They found one man with a gunshot wound to his upper right leg, and he said that a brown car might have been involved.

After interviewing witnesses, police determined that the victim himself had been a participant in the shooting, according to Roberts. The man had fired a handgun himself and at one point almost shot an uninvolved person on the street, she said.

The wounded man was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

The case is under investigation.
