A body found Sunday night in Wayne County has been identified as that of a local man who went missing earlier this year, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department said.

The body of Marshal Kay Alley, 69, was found about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in a field near a creek off Christian Mill Road, officials said.

A passerby noticed the body in a wooded area near the creek and called authorities.

The body was taken Monday to the Kentucky medical examiner's office in Frankfort, where an autopsy is scheduled, according to officers at the Kentucky State Police post at London.

State police are heading up an investigation.

Alley disappeared in February, according to WKYT. He had been headed home on foot after being jailed on a domestic violence charge, but his son told WKYT that the allegation didn't have anything to do with his disappearance. Alley was in poor health. Police searches failed to find Alley.
