There will be no alcohol sales in Lexington from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the May 20 primary elections, according to a city news release.
In the 2013 legislative session the state passed a statute allowing local communities to decide whether to allow the sale of liquor on Election Day. To make the change the local governing body — in Lexington, the Urban County Council — must repeal the ordinance banning sales, the release said.
The council has formed a committee to study the ordinance.
