High school baseball: Local district tournaments full of top 25 talent

Top-rated Tates Creek is one of five top 25 baseball teams that will be battling it out in local district tournament action this week. The defending district and region champion Commodores take a seven-game winning streak into the playoffs.

The 43rd District at Lafayette opens Monday with a match-up between No. 14 Paul Laurence Dunbar and No. 22 Lafayette. The winner gets a shot at Tates Creek in Tuesday's semifinals.

No. 10 Lexington Catholic faces Lexington Christian Academy in Tuesday's other semifinal.

In the 42nd District at Henry Clay, No. 16 Scott County plays Bryan Station Monday in the first game of a semifinals double-header. Henry Clay takes on Sayre in the nightcap.

The district winners and runners-up advance to the region tournament at Western Hills next week.

Mon.: Scott County (23-8) vs. Bryan Station (13-20), 6 p.m.; Henry Clay (17-18) vs. Sayre (21-8), 8:30.

Tue.: Finals, 6 p.m.

43rd District baseball at Lafayette

Mon.: Lafayette (22-11) vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (18-12), 6 p.m.

Tue.: Lexington Catholic (22-11) vs. Lexington Christian (20-14), 6 p.m.; Tates Creek (28-6-1) vs. Lafayette-Dunbar winner, 8:30 p.m.

Wed.: Finals, 6 p.m.
