20 displaced by downtown Lexington apartment fire

June 3, 2014

About 20 people were displaced after a downtown apartment building in Lexington caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters who were called to 257 Lexington Avenue at about 5:20 p.m. saw flames shooting 20 to 30 feet high, said Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz of the Lexington Fire Department.

No one was injured.

Nantz said the fire is thought to have started on a fence and then jumped to the three-story building. Investigators were at the scene.

Battalion Chief Joe Best said the Red Cross would be called to assist those who were displaced.
