A stabbing near the Eastern Kentucky University campus early Friday put one man in a Lexington hospital and another in jail, Richmond police say.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with multiple stab wounds, police said.

He was in stable condition at the hospital Friday morning, according to Assistant Police Chief Robert Mott.

Police arrested Paris Charles, 23, and charged him with first-degree assault in the stabbing, Mott said.

Mott said it all happened about 2:30 a.m. Friday at a residence on Wellington Court, just off Lancaster Avenue near the Eastern Kentucky University campus.

According to Mott, two men apparently began arguing at the Madison Gardens restaurant a few blocks away in downtown Richmond. The dispute then continued at the Wellington Court address, where the stabbing victim lived, he said.
