It was only the last performance before a monthlong break. But Saturday's three-hour lovefest between Conor Oberst and the band Dawes had all the finality of a permanent farewell. There was even a surprise guest, My Morning Jackets Jim James, to bolster the festivities.
The collaborative program began with an hourlong, pop-friendly set from the Southern California-based Dawes. Oberst followed, with Dawes as his backup band, for two hours of more restlessly poetic tunes that included music forged during his tenures with Bright Eyes and the Mystic Valley Band. James showed up to jam at the end of each set with a hooded, cross-armed cohort. A sidekick? A bodyguard? A simple eccentricity? No one knew for sure.
