Lawrence County man charged with sex assault of 14-year-old

Kentucky State Police in Ashland arrested a Lawrence County man Thursday after investigating a report of a sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The assault involved sexual contact and photographs of the alleged victim, according to a news release.

KSP received a call June 7 that Harold K. Shannon, 66, of McClure Branch in Louisa, had explicit sexual images of a teenage girl.

During the investigation, it was determined that Shannon had engaged in oral sex with the juvenile, according to the news release. He also was found to be in possession of several images depicting a sexual performance involving the juvenile.

A warrant was issued Thursday, and Shannon was arrested and taken to the Boyd County jail.

The news release said he has been charged with five counts of use of a minor in a sex performance, five counts of unlawful transaction with a minor, one count of promoting a minor younger than 16 in sex performance, and one count of possessing or viewing matter portraying sexual performance by a minor.

Additional charges are pending. The case investigation is continuing.
