Danville police issued warrants for three people late Sunday night after a man was assaulted with hammers.

Officers went to West Lexington Avenue near the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church about 11:15 p.m. Sunday after the assault was reported, police said.

Paramedics treated Hugh Parker, 30, of Danville, for deep lacerations to his face. Three suspects already had fled, police said.

Parker apparently was walking on the sidewalk when Desmond A. Brock, 25, of Danville, allegedly attempted to hit him with a car, police said.

Parker dodged, and Brock's 2003 Chevrolet Impala struck a fence in front of 402 West Lexington Avenue, police said.

Brock and two passengers, Darryl Whitely, 25, and Meagan Whitely, 22, both of Danville, allegedly began assaulting Parker with hammers, police said.

Police said they later recovered the Chevy.

Brock, Darryl Whitley and Meagan Whitley are being sought on second-degree assault charges.
