A Mason County sherriff's deputy was killed Thursday in a motorcycle crash, Kentucky State Police said.

Deputy Darren L. Hull of Mayslick was driving his Harley Davidson northbound on Ky. 9 AA just north of Maysville when the cars in front of him slowed to a stop to allow a driver to turn left, police said. Hull was unable to stop and sideswiped a northbound car, then crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a Ford Escape, a small SUV.

Hull died at the scene, and the accident remains under investigation.

At 4:50 p.m., the Mason County sheriff's department asked state police for assistance with Hull's accident.

The sheriff's office declined to comment Friday.
