Crash kills Lexington woman

A 77-year-old Lexington woman is dead after being involved in a car wreck Friday morning.

Margaret Elery was pronounced dead at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital at 12:38 p.m. due to multiple blunt force trauma after a collision at Briarwood Drive and Georgetown Road, according to a Fayette County coroner's news release.

WKYT reported that a second person was injured in the passenger car.

Lexington police Sgt. Jesse Harris said Elery was hit by a pickup truck traveling outbound on Georgetown Road at 11:49 a.m. after the driver ran a red light and hit Elery's car. Elery's death was ruled accidental.
