Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes said Saturday he was investigating the possible drowning death of a 7-year-old Lexington girl on Friday.

The child, identified as Erin Nicole Adams by the Herald-Leader's reporting partner, WKYT-TV, was with her family about 2 p.m. Friday at the Nicholasville Aquatic Center when she disappeared into the water, Hughes said.

A lifeguard almost immediately pulled her out of the pool, Hughes said.

Hughes said the girl was taken to St. Joseph Jessamine Hospital, where she died.

Hughes told WKYT that a primary autopsy didn't pinpoint a cause of death, and further investigation will be needed.
