Veterans and military spouses may attend a job fair Thursday in Lexington, part of a nationwide movement to hire more than 500,000 by the end of the year.

More than 45 Kentucky and regional employers are expected to participate, according to a news release announcing the fair, at the National Guard Armory, 4301 Airport Road.

The event will include a free Hiring Our Heroes employment workshop focused on résumé writing, interview skills, and job search techniques for veterans and their spouses.

The workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. The job fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Interested job seekers should register for free at Walk-in job seekers are allowed; veterans must provide proof of service.

Employers are invited to attend a "Best Practices in Veteran Recruitment Lunch and Learn" to develop and refine strong military recruitment initiatives. It will be immediately after the job fair.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is sponsoring the event, which is part of a national initiative. Since March 2011, through Hiring Our Heroes, 1,500 companies have hired 23,000 veterans and military spouses as a result of more than 720 job fairs.
