Kentucky Coach John Calipari shared a light moment with his team during practice at the Final Four this past season. Calipari agreed to a new contract that will keep him at UK for the next seven seasons.

Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart was asked if he was concerned he was going to have to hire a new men’s basketball coach this spring with John Calipari reportedly getting lucrative offers from NBA teams. Here’s what Barnhart said:

“No. Cal has been very loyal to the University of Kentucky. I think with the wonderful players we’ve got coming back and the recruiting class that he had, it’s been — his name is always going to be out there. There’s always going to be speculation about jobs. He is a wonderful CEO of the basketball program. He gets the big picture of what this place is all about, and he works really hard. But all the phases of whatever, whether it’s the academic piece, the competitive piece, the representing the university well, he does all that marvelously well. So, no I wasn’t concerned about that. I felt like he was good and loyal to his word. He signed a contract — we signed a new one. I want him to be here in Kentucky blue and white for an awful long time. I think that’s his desire as well.”
